Kapsch TrafficCom consortium successfully launches ETC system in Poland Traffic Technology
July 7, 2011
The Polish Directorate for National Roads and Highways (GDDKiA) has said that the Kapsch TrafficCom consortium has successfully launched the country’s ‘viaToll’ electronic toll collection (ETC) system this week. The Kapsch consortium has implemented a comprehensive and state-of-the-art ETC system on the existing road network of approximately 1,560km (970 miles), which applies to all vehicles weighing over 3.5 tons. The consortium will also provide commercial operation of the system for the next eight years through its Polish operation’s company and will continue to extend the existing system to additional roads during the operational period. The Polish Finance Ministry expects that the system will increase the country’s revenues by about US$145 million (PLN400 million) by the end of this year.
“The entire system is now operational,” enthused Michael Gschnitzer, Kapsch TrafficCom’s sales director. “Until today we had successfully registered more than 300,000 vehicles – in the upcoming days we expect to distribute around 25,000 onboard units daily. As a result of the big interest of the road users, we extended the capacity and working hours on most of the points of sale. The mobile enforcement units already successfully control whether vehicles above 3.5 tons are properly equipped with OBUs. The system was implemented in record time. For the whole implementation, we had not more than eight months. There is still enough to do for us, but the system could now successfully go into operation.”
Multi-Storey Plan Stuck, Bus-Stop Makes Do With Bad Roads
July 4, 2011
It was to be Khadki’s showpiece: a modern bus-stand which would also be a shopping area. A proposal to construct a multi-storey complex with the bus-stop running from the ground floor has been hanging fire for years due to official apathy.
Even as cantonment board moved the proposal to the Defence Ministry seeking that it will construct the bus-stand in private-public partnership, the Ministry is reluctant to give the green signal on the plea that it will amount to creation of third party interest as a private party will earn money on a project on cantonment land. What is making things worse is withdrawal of the no-objection certificate (NOC) to KCB issued by PMPL allowing it to construct the complex. As per the original proposal, the ground floor was to be reserved for the stand and the remaining space was to be used for parking, office-space and a shopping complex.
“First, the PMPML gave us NOC. Later, it withdrew it stating they will give its decision later,” said KCB vice-president Manish Anand. He added that the project, which was to come up for around Rs 6 crore, was to be maintained by the private agency for at least 20 years. “If we construct it on our own we won’t be able to maintain it properly. That is why we sought to construct it in build operate and transfer (BOT) mode.”
Transport Infrastructure Projects Attract Big Investors
July 4, 2011
VietNamNet Bridge – A series of transport infrastructure projects managed by the Ministry of Transport have received rapid-fire investment registrations from both domestic and foreign investors.
The unusually high number of investors, who have registered to become the investors of the Ninh Binh-Thanh Hoa road, and Nghi Son-Bai Vot road, the parts of the North-South Expressway, has made the expressway project become the “hottest project” nowadays.
With the total investment capital of 59 trillion dong, the Ninh Binh-Thanh Hoa will have the length of 126.7 kilometers and six lanes, while Nghi Son-Bai Vot stretch of roads, will have the length of 92.7 kilometers and 4-6 lanes
In the period from March 2011 to June 2011 alone, the Ministry of Transport received the registrations from five investors and joint venture investors, including the foreign well known corporations in infrastructure like South Korean Keangnam Vina and Posco, Chinese Asian Investment Fund, and the Thai Bangkok Transport Public Company.
Meanwhile, to date, three Vietnamese independent investors have also registered the investments in the two projects, namely Xuan Truong Construction Company and Xuan Thanh Investment and Development Joint Stock Company, a subsidiary of Mai Linh Group.
There is a surprise that the La Son-Tuy Loan highway, the project which has been considered as less attractive, has also received the investment registrations from the joint venture of seven Vietnamese and South Korean investors, headed by Shinhan E&C, who plan to invest under the mode of BOT (build-operation-transfer).
